A new alcoholic version of the Abita Brewing Co.‘s notable root beer will hit the store shelves in the New Orleans area this week, with full distribution in early 2016, the company has announced. Bayou Bootlegger Hard Root Beer is the first product in a line of hard sodas from the north shore company.
The new product is based on the same root beer formula that Abita has been craft brewing for more than 20 years, and is formulated to achieve a 5.9 percent alcohol by volume. By comparison, Abita’s popular Amber beer has a 4.5 percent ABV.
“Our hard root beer is a decidedly adult take on the old-fashioned Abita Root Beer we’ve been brewing and you’ve been loving for years, said David Blossman, president and chief executive. “It only made sense for us to enhance our already famous root beer with this fun, new twist.”
